Course Information

Who Should Attend?

This course is suitable for those who want to update their knowledge and skills in guarding operation and/or pursue further study. It is pre-requisite for joining HKIOS in-class courses including Progressive Guarding (Level 2), Security Control Operations (Level 3), Guarding Supervision (Level 3) and Train-the-Trainer for Guarding Services (Level 4).

Joining Criteria

Participants should:
  • Have completed basic guarding training that meets the standards of UoC 107753L1, and
  • Be experienced in guarding operations of not less than 1 year.

Assessment

  • Participants must pass the quiz at the end of each chapter before starting a new chapter and must pass the course-end examination.
  • Quizzes and examination are online and in the form of multiple-choice questions.
  • The pass mark is 62%. Two re-sits are allowed for the course-end examination.

Award and Recognition

On successful completion of the course, participants will receive a “Certificate of Completion”.

Learning Outcome

At the end of this course, participants will:
  • Acquire a deeper understanding of the latest knowledge and skills of guarding services.
  • Be able to complete assigned duties in accordance with established policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Learn about how to handle emergencies and major incidents.

     o The nature and purpose of guarding services

     o The function of security technology
     o Techniques for performing access control, patrolling and crowd control.
  • Legal Liabilities:

     o Duty of Care

     o Security and Guarding Services Ordinance
     o Occupational Safety and Health Ordinance
     o Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance
  • Performing traffic control on private roads
  • Preventing and detecting crime
  • Preventing fire and fire response
  • Handling emergencies and major incidents
  • Personal qualities of security personnel:

     o Conduct and performance standards

     o Incident reporting techniques
     o Interpersonal and communication skills
